Description
Maxxis' Aspen ST was developed with the fastest rolling speeds in mind. Ultra-low profile knobs with assorted shapes and sizes were designed for short track XC use -- a mix of terrains similar to what we ride on Class IV rides, all-terrain tours, and adventure missions: hardpack dirt, paved roads and paths, technical singletrack, and jumbly doubletrack.
The Aspen ST shines where volume is key for grip and comfort, but aggressive tread is more of a hindrance to rolling speed than an advantage on steeps and loose dirt. A 170 tpi casing keeps the tire supple and super light, and a MaxxSpeed rubber layup is tacky on top, but supportive and fast underneath.
They'd be just as at home on a Salsa Cutthroat or an Otso Fenrir deep in Class IV roads as they would be on an Orbea Oiz on the Catamount XC track on a Wednesday night.
